NDIS short term accommodation Brisbane

Currently, 19.1% of the Queensland population live with a disability, so it’s important there are specialist accommodation options available. In this article, we explore what the NDIS short term accommodation Brisbane options are and what’s included.

NDIS Short Term Accommodation in Brisbane: What is it?

Short Term Accommodation (or STA) is a type of support offered when a person needs to live out of home for a short period of time. Short Term Accommodation NDIS plans usually cover personal care, food, accommodation, and activities that the participant and the provider agree to. STA is typically used for respite care, allowing both carers and NDIS participants to relax, recharge and take a break.

What are the benefits of STA?

If your NDIS plan includes STA, it’s certainly worth using, as it benefits both NDIS participants and their carers.  STA including respite is available for carers looking to take a short break and STA can help NDIS participants build new skills, try something new, make new friends, engage with their community and socialise.

At Aspire Hub, we consider the participants’ requirements and interests to ensure their short break is enjoyable. Whether it’s a footy weekend, explorer outing or a food trail, each stay is designed around an individual’s needs.

Aspire Hub client Valerie, had her first respite stay in short term accommodation with us, so her husband and carer could take a short break.

“Thankfully, we were able to get in touch with Aspire (and John) and that contact has changed our everyday markedly, we don’t feel like we are unsupported and have taken advantage of the opportunity to have a break (respite) from our everyday.” said Valerie.

“I cannot wait for my next respite…. The carers are awesome, kind, thoughtful, considerate and read your needs so well. It is refreshing to experience such a positive and “can do” attitude.”

What support is included in NDIS Short Term Accommodation in Brisbane?

STA isn’t just a bed, it also includes personal care, food and the activities the individual and the provider agree to. At Aspire Hub, we’re with you every step of the way and personal care includes assistance with showering and dressing, medication management, personal development assistance and lifestyle and recreational assistance, depending on the levels of care required. If you’re not sure what your NDIS plan includes, feel free to reach out to us, we’re always happy to help.

Can STA be used for holidays?

STA NDIS does not include holidays, rather the funding for this accommodation aims to build an individual’s skills, help them to achieve their goals or provide respite for carers.  To approve STA, the NDIS considers whether the stay will help pursue an individual’s goals, participate in their local community and whether the stay is value for money.

How long is STA for?

When it comes to STA NDIS currently covers up to 28 days of Short Term Accommodation per year. This allocation can be broken up into bigger blocks, (e.g., a fortnight’s stay) or shorter periods (e.g., one weekend per month)
