NDIS SIL Registration Changes 2026: What Perth Families Need to Know

July 30, 2026

If you or someone you love receives Supported Independent Living (SIL) supports in Perth, there’s a change taking effect this year that’s worth understanding now, rather than after it affects your household. From 1 July 2026, providers delivering SIL are required to register, or be in the process of registering, with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. If your current provider isn’t registered and doesn’t apply in time, you may need to find one that is.

Here’s what’s changing, what it means for you and your family, and the questions worth asking any SIL provider right now.

What’s changing

Supported Independent Living has, until now, been one of the few high-support NDIS services an unregistered provider could legally deliver. That’s ending. Under a new registration category – Group 0138, Assistance with Supported Independent Living – anyone delivering SIL is required to register with the NDIS Commission.

Providers who were already delivering SIL without registration don’t need to be fully registered on 1 July 2026 itself, but they do need to have applied by 1 October 2026, and can continue supporting participants while that application is assessed. New providers entering the SIL space can’t start delivering the service until their registration is approved.

The reasoning behind the change is straightforward. SIL supports people with some of the highest support needs in the NDIS, often around the clock, and until now those providers haven’t been required to meet the Commission’s Practice Standards, undergo independent audits, or complete worker screening checks in the same way most other registered providers do. Draft SIL Practice Standards were released in late May 2026, with a final version expected by the end of June and enforceable from 1 July.

What it means for you or your family

If your current SIL provider is already registered, nothing changes for you. Your plan, your funding and your supports continue as they are. If your provider isn’t registered and doesn’t apply by the October deadline, they’ll need to stop delivering SIL, and you’ll need support to transition to a provider who is registered.

Either way, it’s a reasonable moment to ask the question directly rather than assume. A provider delivering SIL after 1 July 2026 without registration, or without an application in progress, is operating outside the NDIS Act – and that’s not a risk worth carrying quietly.

Questions worth asking any SIL provider right now

  • Are you registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, and under which registration group?
  • If you’re not yet registered, have you applied – and when do you expect approval?
  • What Practice Standards audits or worker screening do your support staff currently undergo?
  • What would happen to my support arrangements if your registration status changed?
  • Who can I contact directly if I have concerns about the quality or safety of my support?

A provider that can answer these clearly and without hesitation is one worth staying with. A provider that can’t is worth a second look.

Where Aspire Hub fits

Aspire Hub has operated as a registered NDIS provider since it began delivering supported accommodation and in-home support, including here in Perth. That’s not a change we’ve had to make in response to this year’s reforms – it’s the standard we’ve held ourselves to already, across Supported Independent Living, Individual Living Options (ILO), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), and our other home and living supports in Perth and Southeast Queensland.

If you’re reassessing your current SIL arrangements in Western Australia – whether because your provider’s registration status is unclear, or you simply want the reassurance of working with a team that already meets the Commission’s standards – our Perth team is happy to talk it through. No pressure, no waiting list.

How Aspire Hub can help you

Get in touch with Aspire Hub’s Perth team to talk through your Supported Independent Living options, or take a look at our current SIL services and WA vacancies. And because registration requirements are still being finalised through 2026, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s mandatory registration page remains the most authoritative source if you’re planning around specific dates – worth checking alongside a conversation with your plan manager or support coordinator.
