Understanding the three options before your plan meeting can help you choose an arrangement that works for your circumstances.<\/p>\n<h2>The three ways to manage your NDIS funding<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">There are three main options for managing your NDIS funding:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Self-managed<\/li>\n<li>Plan-managed<\/li>\n<li>NDIA-managed (also called agency-managed)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">You can also use a combination of these options across different parts of your plan.<\/p>\n<h3>Self-managed<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">With self-managed funding, you or your nominee manage the funding, pay your providers and keep track of your spending and records.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This option gives you the greatest flexibility and choice. You can generally use both registered and unregistered providers, negotiate support costs and have more control over how your funding is used.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The trade-off is that you take on more responsibility. You need to manage your budget, pay providers, keep invoices and receipts, and make sure your spending is in line with your NDIS plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Best suited to:<\/strong> People who want greater control over their funding and are comfortable managing the administration involved.<\/p>\n<h3>Plan-managed<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">With plan-managed funding, a registered plan manager handles payments and financial records on your behalf.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">You still choose your providers and can generally use both registered and unregistered providers. Funding for your plan manager is included separately in your NDIS plan, rather than coming out of your other support budgets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Plan management can be a useful option if you want greater provider choice without having to manage invoices and payments yourself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Best suited to:<\/strong> People who want provider choice but would prefer someone else to handle the financial administration.<\/p>\n<h3>NDIA-managed<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">With NDIA-managed funding, the NDIA manages your funding and pays your providers directly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">You still choose your providers, but they must be registered with the NDIS for supports covered by NDIA-managed funding. The NDIA also manages the financial records and claims associated with your plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This option involves less financial administration for you, but your provider choice is limited to registered NDIS providers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Best suited to:<\/strong> People who want the NDIA to manage payments and financial administration.<\/p>\n<h2>You can use a combination of options<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">You don&#8217;t necessarily have to manage your entire plan in the same way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The NDIS allows you to combine management types across different parts of your plan. For example, you could self-manage some funding while having other funding managed by a plan manager or the NDIA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">If you think a mixed approach could work better for you, raise it during your planning conversation.<\/p>\n<h2>How do you choose the right option?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">There isn&#8217;t one management option that&#8217;s right for everyone. Consider:<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>How comfortable are you with administration?<\/strong><br \/>\nSelf-management gives you more control but also means managing payments, records and budgets yourself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Do you want to use unregistered providers?<\/strong><br \/>\nSelf-managed and plan-managed funding can allow you to use registered or unregistered providers. NDIA-managed funding requires you to use registered providers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Do you have someone who can help?<\/strong><br \/>\nA nominee, family member, Support Coordinator or plan manager may be able to help you understand and manage your funding, depending on your circumstances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>How much time do you want to spend managing your funding?<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you don&#8217;t want to manage invoices, payments and records, plan management or NDIA management may be more suitable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The key is finding the balance between <strong>how much control you want and how much administration you&#8217;re comfortable taking on<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Can you change how your NDIS funding is managed?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Yes. Your management choice isn&#8217;t necessarily locked in for the entire length of your plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">You can ask the NDIA to change how your funding is managed during your plan.
