If you\u2019re a participant wondering <\/span>\u2018can NDIS help with housing?\u2019<\/span>, we\u2019re breaking down the different ways the NDIA helps people with disabilities to get into accessible accommodation!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a01. NDIS Housing refers to homes that are specifically designed to support people with disability<\/b><\/h4>\n

NDIS housing options<\/span> may include specialist disability accommodation (SDA), which is purpose-built for people with high support needs. For example, SDA homes may include features such as wheelchair accessibility, enhanced communication systems, and built-in assistive technology. <\/span><\/p>\n

2. The NDIS has been a gamechanger for housing people with a disability<\/b><\/h4>\n

The NDIS is providing more options, more support and the ability to live more independently for many. It does this through a variety of support and accommodation options. <\/span><\/p>\n

3. Only a small percentage of NDIS participants will receive funding from the NDIA for SDA<\/b><\/h4>\n

The NDIS only provides funding for SDA to eligible participants with a permanent and significant disability who require specialist housing.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. There are a number of different <\/b>NDIS housing options<\/b> for you consider<\/b><\/h4>\n

Short Term and Medium-Term Accommodation, SDA and Supported Independent Living are different options for you, your loved ones, and your NDIS plan coordinator to consider. 5. You can explore the options available in your NDIS planning meeting<\/b><\/h4>\n

\u00a0You can request \u2018coordination of supports\u2019 in your NDIS plan to fund a support coordinator to help you look at the various housing options available to you. Your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) can provide you with information about housing providers in your area. 6. You must meet certain requirements to be eligible for SDA<\/b><\/h4>\n

When the NDIS decide if you\u2019re eligible for specialist disability accommodation, they will consider what other supports you need and how they\u2019ll work together. Therefore, you will only receive funding for SDA if it\u2019s a better option for your disability support needs than other supports alone.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Typically, you will only need specialist disability accommodation if you need to live in a specialised home, and you also need very high levels of person-to-person support. \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

7. To work out if you\u2019re eligible, the NDIS will ask for evidence about your needs<\/b><\/h4>\n

You may be required to provide a report from an allied health professional to determine your eligibility. The NDIS will also ask you questions like:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
